2026 Healthcare Trends in Southeast Wisconsin

Healthcare is evolving quickly in 2026, especially here in Southeast Wisconsin. Below is more information on the key trends we’re seeing right now.

Local Carrier Landscape

In our area, many clients are currently enrolled with Network Health, Dean Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Quartz Health Solutions, or CareSource. Each of these carriers offers strong options, but plan design is shifting, and that’s where gaps can show up.

Trend: Higher Deductibles & Out-of-Pocket Costs

Many current plans (especially marketplace and employer plans) now include higher deductibles, coinsurance (you pay a percentage even after you’ve met your deductible), and larger out-of-pocket maximums. This means you pay more when something actually happens.

Trend: Narrower Networks

Insurance plans are restricting in-network coverage to a curated, smaller group of providers to reduce premiums, improve care coordination, and boost quality. For you, this means fewer in-network specialists, higher costs if you go outside the network, and the need to double-check doctors before care.

Trend: Lower Premium = Higher Risk

Many people are choosing lower monthly premium plans, but this means higher deductibles, more cost-sharing, and less predictability. A lower premium is great monthly savings… until you need care.

This article from KFF provides tips on how you can prepare to meet that high deductible, including:

  • Opening an HSA, if eligible

  • Reviewing your summary of benefits to understand what different services cost (i.e. some plans charge less for a telehealth visit)

  • Seeking care early so if you discover a condition requiring ongoing care, you’ll meet your deductible sooner

  • Consider paying cash instead of spending down your deductible

  • Remembering to update your income if you’re on an ACA plan to avoid a tax surprise in April
